Come join the fun as students become artists and art historians by examining one artist, or period, each week. We will begin our adventure discovering ancient artwork by early humans featuring cave paintings. After Cave Paintings, we will jump to the 1600’s where the art of Artemisia Gentileschi will enchant the senses with her chiaroscuro applications - followed with Katsushika Hokusai who is known for The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Moving to the 1800’s, students will find Hilma af Klint’s and Amedeo Modigliani work charming with Klint’s abstract shapes and Modigliani’s Greek inspired figures. Our last artist to explore is famed Louise Bourgeois where students can create their own unique spiders. As students learn about each artist, they will apply their own art skills using different forms of art mediums. Students will build their art portfolio which will be presented at our last class, along with a fun Salad Bowl game with parents.
7 sessions, 90 minutes each.
